We Are All Missionary Disciples

In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples (cf. Mt 28:19)

All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insufficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients.  The new evangelization calls for personal involvement on the part of each of the baptized.

. . . . Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries,” but rather that we are always “missionary disciples.”

. . . . The Samaritan woman became a missionary immediately after speaking with Jesus and many Samaritans come to believe in him “because of the woman’s testimony”  (Jn 4:39).  So too, St. Paul, after his encounter with Jesus Christ, “immediately proclaimed Jesus” (Acts 9:20; cf. 22:6-21).  So what are we waiting for?

Of course, all of us are called to mature in our work as evangelizers.  We want to have better training, a deepening love and a clearer witness to the Gospel.  In this sense, we ought to let others be constantly evangelizing us.

. . . . Our falling short of perfection should be no excuse; on the contrary, mission is a constant stimulus not to remain mired in mediocrity but to continue growing.  The witness of faith that each Christian is called to offer leads us to say with St. Paul:  “Not that I have already obtained this, or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own” (Phil 3: 12-13).

Parish Membership

Welcome new parishioners!  To be a registered member of our parish is to have a sense of belonging to a Community of Faith.  Please introduce yourself/family to the pastor and register as soon as possible.  All parishioners especially those who live outside our parish boundaries are expected to complete a Parish Registration form and use Sunday Offertory Envelopes.  This will greatly assist the Parish Team when parishioners request sacraments, funerals or letters of reference.  N.B.  Please notify the parish office if you change your address or family information.

Please pray for all who are ill, especially

Maria Soares, Hugh Taylor, Mary Gilbride, Laura MacDonald, Kay Bennett, Patricia Cull and Maria Jose Bouey.

If you are planning to be away on vacation this summer, and are a user of weekly envelopes, we encourage you to include those envelopes for those weeks you will be absent from the parish.  We depend on your regular contributions to maintain our weekly, ongoing expenses.

Remember, postdated cheques can be used anytime in the collection basket or by the Pre-Authorized Giving Plan.  Support can now be automatic through a pre-authorized giving plan available to our parish.  Brochures are available at the entrance of the church and at the parish office.  To participate please complete the authorization form.  Forms may be returned in the collection basket next week or mailed to the parish office.  Thank you for your continued, generous support!
