Welcome to Holy Name
Thank you for worshipping with us today.

I asked my sons to show me their Rocky Mountains so I could understand why they live so far away. In one weekend they proudly shared their world and took me far beyond my wildest dreams. The most unexpected experience was seeing that my boys have been transformed into wise young men who treasure the creative energy of those amazing peaks and valleys, an energy that enriches every part of their lives.
The book of Genesis shows us Abraham’s transformation. With a heavy but obedient heart, he climbs the mountain to fulfill the ancient obligation of offering the sacrifice of his precious firstborn child. At the last minute, he receives a new life-giving understanding of sacrifice and gift. He and his son joyfully walk away.
In the Gospel, Jesus invites his closest companions to join him on a mountaintop. Suddenly he is clothed in an extraordinary light. Moses and Elijah appear and God speaks. Peter, James and John are terrified by this transformation. They cannot understand what they have experienced, but still they continue on the journey with their inspiring leader.
Today, Christ invites us to the eucharistic banquet, where earth and heaven are joined. Here Christ is transformed to be our food and drink, so we in turn will be transformed and share this precious nourishment with our hungry world.
